NFL: Cowboys Edge Giants for Crucial Win
The Dallas Cowboys secured a much-needed win on Thursday Night Football, narrowly defeating the New York Giants 20-15 at MetLife Stadium.
After suffering two tough home losses, the Cowboys sought to regain their momentum on the road in East Rutherford, New Jersey. A clean performance from quarterback Dak Prescott, a solid red-zone defense, and standout kicker Brandon Aubrey helped Dallas inch back toward their winning ways.
This victory continued Dallas’ dominance over their division rivals, marking their 14th win in the last 15 matchups against New York. Prescott's personal streak extended to 13 consecutive wins against the Giants, making it the second-longest quarterback win streak against a single opponent since 1950.
Prescott completed 22 of 27 passes for 221 yards, including a 55-yard pass to CeeDee Lamb in the second quarter, and connected with Rico Dowdle for two touchdowns. After the game, Prescott reflected on the importance of this win for the team:
“It was huge, absolutely,” Prescott said. “After losing two, especially at home, coming on the road, first division game. Division wins are always tough, and being out here on the road before a long weekend puts a better taste in our mouths.”
However, Prescott emphasized the team won’t become complacent: “We’re not going to get overexcited about what we’ve done tonight. It’s about building and figuring out what we can do better in all phases.”
Both teams relied heavily on their kickers during the game. Giants kicker Greg Joseph was perfect on five field goal attempts, scoring all of New York’s points. Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey contributed two crucial second-half field goals, though he missed a late attempt that could have further extended the lead.
The Giants faced a setback when rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers exited the game in the fourth quarter with a concussion. Although Nabers later reassured fans via Instagram that he was "all good," his absence hindered New York’s chances of a late-game comeback.
The Cowboys secured the win when Amani Oruwariye intercepted Giants quarterback Daniel Jones with seconds remaining, sealing Dallas’ 2-2 record for the season. New York, meanwhile, dropped to 1-3.
Reflecting on the game, Prescott noted that while the defense stepped up to finish the job, the offense has room to improve: “We’re an offense that can finish better and score more touchdowns than we did tonight. We’ve got to look at ourselves in the mirror and go get that done.”
